Research - CD Covers

Today my chosen band Young Guns announced the release and artwork of their new album, set to be released in February 2012. The artwork for this album is quite surprising as it is very different to artwork in the past. Also it doesn't immediately look like a rock album, which may suggest they are changing their image or sound. They have included their new font type for the name of the band but have chosen not to put on their new logo. I love the artwork for this album. The purple connotes mystery, relevant as the release date is quite far away. This may also keep a mystery to their new sound, as we got a taste of this through their new music video for 'Learn My Lesson'. The title of the album is much smaller in comparison to the bands name and in a font more suited to the artwork. The imagery used represents the title of the album, showing a girl, showing off the bones of the ribcage. The artwork is given a distressed look by the texture overlay which brings back connotations of the rock genre.
