Planning - Shooting Schedule

This weekend I will start to film the time lapse shots which will include lots of different angles of clouds and the sky. I'm hoping for cloudy weather as well as clouds with sun. Any intervals of rain could also work well. Looking at the weather for this weekend, it look like I will be lucky enough to get both, clouds on Saturday and sun on Sunday.
In addition to these shot, I may film a few shots of the clouds against the moon as the full moon is out this week, which I thought looked amazing when I saw it yesterday.
I've decided to film these shots for about 10-20 minutes at a time to give me a long clip when sped up. From my practice I found that a 7 minute clip sped up by 1200% was about 30 seconds. I wanted to speed these clips up a little more so this longer time scale will help to give me a good range of long clips I can cut to fit and use.

Planning - Narrative Actors

My lead male and female are Luke Barnett and Emily Smith who have kindly agreed to act for me. They will be the two main characters used in my narrative shots. Emily was in my film opening AS piece last year so I know she is reliable and can deliver. As Luke and Emily are in a relationship, I think this will help a lot to show a sort of chemistry between the two characters and they obviously get along meaning filming should go smoothly.
For the flashbacks, I am using Emily's younger sister, Charlotte, and her friend Wilf. By using Emily's sister it will help the audience to connect and realise that this is a flashback of her as a child. As Wilf and Luke aren't related, this connection may be harder to notice but my narrative and the shots used should help the audience understand.

Research - Live Performance Filming

Today, London based band 'Strangers' came in to perform for us. We were put into groups of about 4/5 people and our task was to film one of their songs of our choice. Our group chose the song 'In Chaos'. Due to limited timing, we could only film one play of the song. We used 4 cameras, on above the band, one opposite, a dolly and a handheld. This allows us to have a range of different shots and angles so we can mix and match when it comes to editing. It was a very enjoyable day and fantastic experience working with a real band, it allowed me to get an idea of how music videos are actually created.

You Me At Six - 'Bite My Tongue (Live)'

I love the extreme use of contrast in black and white used for this video. Obviously, the all the special lighting used and the natural darkness of the venue helps this. I think that this would look quite effective for my own video as well as my imagery and photography for my ancillary tasks. I aim for my own piece to be very high in contrast, really exaggerating the dark and light tones, hopefully slightly less than this video but of a similar style. I think it would really bring out the darkness of the clouds in my time lapse shoots and bring the right atmosphere and mood to my final piece.

This is my final storyboard for my Music Video task. Each box shows a visual of what I'd like the shot to look like and underneath there are some details which include type of shot, any tracking/panning/focus pulls etc and how long the shot lasts for as well as the timings of when the shot will appear throughout the song.

The First - 'Sit Tight (Acoustic)'

This is the acoustic version of the song 'Sit Tight' by The First. I've chosen to look at this video as it is also an acoustic version of a song, just like the song I have chosen for this project. Also, the video is shot in black and white like I intend too. I love the shallow focus used, making the background very blurred. To achieve this effect for my own production, I would need to use a lens such as my 1.8f 50mm lens. This, however, restricts me to zoom in or out as it is a fixed length. 

The contrast between black and white used in image one is what I will try to achieve. To exaggerate the tones I will use the 'Levels' tool in Final Cut to play around with the blacks. whites and greys. Hopefully I can achieve something that looks similar in contrast to this video.

There are very few quick shots or fast cuts in this video, when the do happen it is to the beat and appropriate. The majority of shots are held for a long period of time and sometimes the two shots have a fade transition. I think that this is used because it is an acoustic version, meaning that the pace is slightly slower and calmer just like the fading transition. 

Research - CD Covers

Deaf Havana - 'Fools And Worthless Liars'
This is new new album form Deaf Havana, pre released today. This is a shot of the album cover (signed copy) and inside deign as well as the CD design. The whole pack follows the same design of sepia images with white text. The only thing that stands out is the lightened version of the image used on the CD. When I come to create my own Digipak, I will need to think about consistency of design throughout and come up with something that can be easily carried through and possibly inspire my poster design too.
The inside cover, underneath the booklet, contain information and credits about the album and band. There is an image of a brick wall, continuing on from the front design image. The booklet contains all the lyrics, illustrated in a similar design to the rest of the pack.
